Leading and Managing the Economic Development Organization

Successful Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) are distinguished by their ability to be innovative in their program activities and to quickly react to changes in the marketplace. To do this, the staff and management must successfully navigate key and pervasive management issues. They should be aware of and responsive to key stakeholder expectations and be results-oriented. Participants will be introduced to the various aspects of EDO management, with an eye toward achieving a high level of organizational performance.

An effective organization has a clear sense of direction and how to get there. It can clearly articulate and measure its primary outcomes as they relate to the organization’s mission, vision, and goals. The strategic actions of the organization are designed to satisfy community and stakeholder desires and expectations for the EDO. The approach of outcome-based performance provides an integrated and effective process for achieving the results expected of the organization.
