Shaping Business Climate via Initiatives in
Public Policy and Incentives

Course Highlights:

Geographic location, transportation infrastructure, and wage rates are critical factors in investors’ location decisions but typically are beyond the direct influence of economic development organizations.   A community’s business climate, however, is a location factor where economic developers can have significant influence on business investors.  Economic developers who understand the political and economic issues in public policy and know how to communicate effectively to legislators and public officials can have a major impact on improving the business climate in their communities.

This course will inform economic developers in Louisiana on the economic and political debates on business climate issues such as taxes, regulation and incentives and will then provide opportunities to improve individual’s skills in communicating policy positions to the electronic and print media and in mobilizing business community participation in support of these policies.
